When I was a kid and my parents built a new house, circa 1977, my mother’s favorite color was red. It still is. She picked out red shag carpeting and red and white curtains for the living room. Even in the 70’s it was a bold decorating move. Stylish too, up until around 1994 when she finally got rid of both items. For years, I would enter that room and shake my head at that red rug and curtains. I swore I would never put anything that loud in my house.
As I stood in our new house the other night, admiring the area rugs I had just picked for the dining and living rooms, I realized they are both red. Red, red, red. Not pale. Not shy. Bold, lively red.
Would someone please pass the salt? This crow is a little bland. And while I’ve never been a fan of it, I seem to be developing a taste for it later in life.
PS…Share with me dear readers, the moment you realized you had become your parent(s).

I was feeling inspired by the snowstorm we had yesterday so I thought I'd
go for a drive and take a few pictures. All images were taken in Seabrook,

I became my father when I was in the USAF.What I did I am ashamed of and that is all I will say.I will say I have anger issues as did my father.
Oh I love red! I use red all throughout my house...the rugs, my gingham sheets, even my couches! I realized I was my mother when I became a mother myself. All those old familiar sayings of hers seemed to pop out of my mouth left and right!
I grew up with red carpet and white curtains in the living room. It was awesome! Especially because we really only used the room at Christmastime.
As for becoming my parents, I'm with Gin: having kids did it for me, too. But not in a bad way.
I too became my mom when my kids were born...all the sayings came out of my mouth that my mom would always say. One day as I saw her reflection in the mirror, I looked a little closer and Bingo..it was me. Hope to see some photos of your new home soon.
Yep, I argree with Jan (my mom). It's when I had kids and everything my mom would say to me, I now say to my kids!
My first day teaching. Every time I opened my mouth my Mom popped out. Fortunately she was a great mom so I didn't get canned!
I don't think it's happened (yet). But I will say this...my mom has turned into my grandmother. The last time I saw her I did a double take and went "Wow...you not only LOOK like Grandma, but you're kind of acting like her too."
Needless to say, that didn't go over well. : )
I have to agree, having kids kind of turns your head to 'your mother'. It just comes with the territory.
Uh, oh.
I'm still waiting to turn into one of my parents.
So far I am very, very different from either one.
