Some Women Just Get Flowers

I get so much more. My husband can be the best gift giver sometimes. He’s incredibly metrosexual that way. He likes to choose gifts that have meaning or have a practical application. Foo foo stuff is a big waste to him, and honestly, it is to me, too. He’s not one to give flowers because A. they die quickly and B. the smell reminds him of the funeral home. He did give me a dozen roses when I gave birth to Teen Angel ‘cause hello! I squeezed his child out of my womb. He also gave me a dozen rose bushes for the yard once because he could play the I gave you flowers card AND complete the landscaping. I thought that was very clever.

When he picks out a gift for me it’s often a surprise and it usually fits me well. Except for the 1991 Salad Shooter incident, but he totally made up for it when he shocked me with that diamond solitaire last Christmas. Diamonds may not be a girl’s best friend, but they ARE a right and joyful thing. All of this is to say he sometimes surprises me with gifts, large and small, that make my heart sing. Like last night.

Unknown to me he recently gave our neighbors some money right before they left for Hawaii and said, “Buy my girls t-shirts in Hawaii and make sure Hula’s has a hula girl on it.” So lo and behold, our neighbors came home yesterday after a nice long vacation with sacks for me and Teen Angel. Hers was a lovely green that made her jump for joy and mine? It has this!

How fun is that? Is that not perfect? I love, love, love it. A big shout out to M. and D. for taking the time between mai tais to pick up the goods, and Hubby, I love ya’ more than my luggage!

Ho Ho Ho

Roses are red, holly is too, Santa came to my house, did he comes to yours, too? Top gift goes to Teen Angel. This now makes three guitars. That's enough, I think. I hope she can pay her way through college with weekend gigs.

I asked all of my family to give me money and gift certificates so I can buy myself a nice camera, but I did get those pajamas from Target I dropped 9,000 hints about. They're just so..me.
And guess who got matching footie PJ's?
And guess who would rather be naked except for his diaper. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, too. Tell me your favorite gift, please.

Joy to The World!

Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus! While making out my Christmas shopping list I discovered that I don’t have that much to buy. Half of my list is already taken care of. I’m so happy I could kiss someone. Where’s a shirtless Matthew McConoughey when you need him?

We bought Sissy’s present weeks ago when we stumbled on a great buy on something she needs. We went halvsies with Sissy on Mama J.’s and Papa T.’s presents which Sissy found two weeks ago. All I had to do was hand her some money. Joy to the world! Hubby bought Handman’s and Supercop’s presents when he was running errands last week. Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings! Hubby wants money for Christmas, and Teen Angel’s list is short and uncomplicated this year (a Christmas miracle if there ever was one), so I have little left to do when Hubby and I hit the stores Friday. I have the day off. I’m taking a list, handing him half of it and shopping like a commando until it’s done. I did a little more pre-planning than I thought. I guess even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.

Between now and Friday, I will settle on something for Baby Ruth and Zeke, which is always a mind bender. I will review Teen Angel’s wish list and check out a few websites for gift ideas for those lovely people in my life who help me to maintain a clean house, dyed roots and manicured hands. And I will pick up gift cards for some kids in the family. Gee, this whole Christmas thing is going better than I thought. If I work it right Friday, we should have groceries bought by noon, the Christmas list knocked out by dinner and still have time to sit in the hot tub under a chilly, starry sky. Silent night….. Everybody hum along…..all is calm, all is bright…..
